Will.I.Am and Cheryl Cole Collaborate On ‘Heartbreaker’

will.i.am heartbreaker

A bit like the folks at Urban Review, my first thought when I saw the video for will.i.am and Cheryl Cole’s single, Heartbreaker was “Hell, British artists must be hot in the States right now.”

My second thought was “When did Cheryl Tweedy start calling herself Cheryl Cole? Did I miss a memo on that one?”

Anyway, the story of how the two came to collaborate is fairly simple - Cole/Tweedy was in the US learning street dancing for the Passions Of Girls Aloud series and auditioned for the video to show off her hot new skills. Apparently her vocals were grafted on afterwards, because she doesn’t appear on the album version.

Thoughts on the single? I’m glad you asked, because I don’t think any member of Black Eyed Peas is remotely good without the others. This track by will.i.am is better than his last single, but not up to the quality of BEP. Whether partnering with Cheryl Cole will shift more units in the UK will make interesting viewing.

Funnily enough, listening to this track makes me think that will.i.am should probably have an ego check and return to Black Eyed Peas, while Cheryl Cole might be the surprise Girls Aloud member to start off a solo career on the back of this and break up the group. I suppose it all depends on how well the single sales go, doesn’t it?
