UK Pop Charts - 9 December 2007

Ha ha, this is the week that Christmas songs started to infiltrate the pop charts. Thanks to the new download rules, people flocking to download Christmas classics are causing songs by The Pogues and Mariah Carey to re-enter the charts!

Still, Leona Lewis’ death grip on the number one position holds for yet another week. I’m finding myself wondering if she’ll hang on long enough to beat whoever wins X Factor this year!

  1. Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love: This is Leona’s seventh week at the top of the charts. Amazing performance, although I’m still laughing at the comment that was left on my review about Leona singing Bleeding Love while writhing around beside a radiator. Is it a song about plumbing?
  2. T2 ft Jodie Aysha - Heartbroken: A surprise urban hit, but very catchy. Not my normal thing, but I’m really enjoying it.
  3. Girls Aloud - Call The Shots: No number one for Girls Aloud this time, but possibly one of their most mature pop hits to date.
  4. Timbaland ft One Republic - Apologize: What an enduring track. Like the Girls Aloud song, not strong enough to see off Miss Lewis, but this could be charting for another few weeks yet.
  5. Take That - Rule The World: Brilliant, brilliant song, but I still haven’t managed to get out and see Stardust yet. Ah well.
  6. Alicia Keys - No One: Shout yourself hoarse singing along to this big R&B track from Alicia. And practice those standing up playing piano moves…
  7. Mark Ronson ft Amy Winehouse - Valerie: Why don’t you come on over? Maybe not. Amy’s latest single is released soon, Tears Dry On Their Own, a cheery ditty just in time for Christmas…
  8. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You: Abomination, I hear you cry! But nay, you’re just annoyed because Slade didn’t make the top ten. This is such a godawful track…
  9. Shayne Ward - Breathless: Heard a bit of this on the radio tonight and I reluctantly concede that it’s not a bad pop tune. Ward manages to come across as sincere, which I didn’t think was possible.
  10. Soulja Boy Tellem - Crank That: And Soulja Boy finally hits UK shores with his runaway single, Crank That. Except that somewhere on the way across the ocean, the track’s gained some raging distortion. Yay.
