The hype machines have been running full tilt for the last fortnight for both Take That and Leona Lewis. While my money was on the ‘Thatters taking the #1 with their triumphant Rule The World, it is the pretty X Factor starlet who rules the charts this week…
Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love: La Lewis has managed a second number one. Not a lot of Ex-Factor contestants can manage that feat! While we were initially not fussed on Bleeding Love, it’s fast growing into a favourite.
Take That - Rule The World: The track we all wanted to see at #1 this week. The Take That boys are disappointed - especially Howard Donald, who’s particularly deflated (heh!). Ah well, better luck next week lads!
McFly - The Heart Never Lies: Here’s some woeful rubbish. In the company of some truly great pop acts this week, McFly’s single sounds forgettable and amateurish. Of course, such things don’t matter when you’re young and your hormones are raging so loud they drown out the music. Wish my hormones would drown it out.
Sugababes - About You Now: Four weeks and the ‘babes get knocked offa the top spot by two pop juggernauts and a bunch of lads with bad haircuts. On the bright side, About You Now was one of the longest runs at #1 for Sugababes, so they’re probably not too devastated.
Mark Ronson ft Amy Winehouse - Valerie: Why won’t Valerie come on over? No-one seems to know. Anyone else find the chimes/bells in the songs a bit Christmassy?
Britney Spears - Gimme More: The one thing we didn’t need to see more of was Britney cavorting around in her fishnets again. Is it possible that the public are sadistically encouraging Brit by giving her a hit single? Fact is, this is nowhere in the same league as her earlier material.
Timbaland ft One Republic - Apologize: Nice vocal, sensitive ballad with all the smoothness you associate with Timbaland. The Shock Value album is going to run and run.
Freemasons ft Bailey Tzuke - Uninvited: Liking this sweet little dance track and Bailey’s thin but adorable vocal. Yes, I said adorable.
Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr A: They claimed science ain’t magic and expected us to believe it. And we did. And then we bought the single. In droves.
Oasis - Lord Don’t Slow Me Down: No real surprises from the Gallagher brothers with this release, but it is refreshing to hear in light of a very samey indie scene at the moment. Just a damn good signature Oasis tune.
