Ouch. Of the two young ladies tipped for big things in 2008, Adele spent the last few weeks being denied her #1 by Basshunter. Then, just when their iron grip of that position slips, in nips Duffy and takes it effortlessly. That’s got to be annoying!

Not as annoying as that Nickelback single is becoming. Finally managed to eclipse How You Remind Me with a piece of novelty rock? Well done lads. Anyway, without further ado folks, here’s the UK Top 10 for the week.

  1. Duffy - Mercy: Duffy scores that all-important #1 with her second single and a shameless ripping off of old soul music.
  2. Nickelback - Rockstar: Nickelback continue to devalue their excellent back catalogue with this all-star novelty rock record. Put it this way, it’s not the tune I’d rather be remembered for.
  3. Basshunter - Now You’re Gone: The Basshunter folks head toward the lower reaches of the charts and - I’d imagine - the ever-growing list of one hit wonders.
  4. David Jordan - Sun Goes Down: I caught the video for this during the week. Quite a charismatic guy, Mr Jordan, isn’t he? At least he’s doing something different.
  5. Adele - Chasing Pavements: The public have spoken - She can chase all the pavements she likes, it’s not gonna get this song to #1.
  6. Rihanna - Don’t Stop The Music: Please don’t stop the, please don’t stop the music. Shake the stress away with Rihanna’s latest. You know you want to.
  7. H Two O ft Platnum - What’s It Gonna Be?: Haven’t caught this one yet. Sounds like yet another dance track infiltrating the top ten. What’s causing this dance resurgence?
  8. Kelly Rowland - Work: Kelly’s still encouraging us to ‘work’ in one of her sexiest videos to date. Ironically, if they were playing this as a motivation video at the office, I wouldn’t be getting much work done.
  9. The Feeling - I Thought It Was Over: Just when you thought it was safe to come out from behind the sofa, The Feeling go and release another chart-friendly indie-pop ditty. Thankfully, there’s less schmaltz with this one and more substance.
  10. Goldfrapp - A&E: Stunning return from Goldfrapp, maintaining their usual levels of weirdness but with a beautiful acoustic tune that warrants a serious second look at this band.

Hey, the good news is that Skanky Spears is completely out of the top ten this week! And a Feeling song that I might actually like? Wow, it looks like it’s going to be a great week!
