Not much change in the UK pop charts this week as Beyonce and Shakira keep their stranglehold on the number one spot. How do we get Ne*Yo out of the charts? Who is buying his plastic off-the-shelf brand of R&B?
Anyway, here’s the run-down of this week’s top ten:
- Beyonce/Shakira - Beautiful Liar. The remix has been getting more radio play than the original this week. I’m not complaining, after a while the eastern vibe on the original sounded a bit contrived…
- Timbaland - Give It To Me. This one just keeps on growing, despite massive play on the radio. I discovered this week that saying Timbaland doesn’t come naturally to me with a Timba…Timber….Timber-land….
- Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend. Avril looks so much like a snotty teenager in the video for this….I wonder if she’s like that in real life. Still lovin’ the track though…
- Ne*Yo - Because Of You. Terrible bloody track. Write to your local MP and ask to have this banned from radio for at least eternity. And Ne*Yo should never be allowed to release music in the UK ever again. You heard me. Oh, and I won’t review this, because I just can’t bring myself to listen to it.
- Mark Ronson - Stop Me. Stop Me remains a classic track, mostly because it’s made of…two classic tracks. You can’t go wrong really, can you?
- Mika - Love Today. Mika is simply a force of nature. Just a fantastic performer you can’t help bopping along with.
- Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm. Despite the rumours that the Arctic Monkeys would have something like 18 tracks in the singles chart this week, Brianstorm slips from number two. Maybe Brianstorm suffered because the fans were out buying the album tracks this week?
- Gym Class Heroes - Cupid’s Chokehold. The second track in the chart this week to reply heavily on another classic song. That said, tongue in cheek delivery and a sharp video make it a worthy top ten single.
- Natasha Bedingfield - I Wanna Have Your Babies. I never got round to reviewing this. It still freaks me out, because of the maternal subject matter. In the interests of investigative journalism (cough, cough) I checked out the video and Natasha looks very fertile to me….
- Travis - Closer. I reviewed this earlier in the week. Good to see the boys reclaiming their rightful place in the charts. Hopefully the next single will break a few more musical boundaries for Travis.
So there you go folks, your top ten this week. Tell me what you’re loving/hating in the comments and your predictions for next week’s chart!
