UK Pop Chart - 27 January 2008

Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

I must be in pissy form today, because just about every song on the top ten this week annoys me on some level.

I’d been holding off on doing a review of Kanye West’s Homecoming single, because I thought it was quite a weak track. It scratched the top ten last week, but dropped out again pretty quickly. Maybe my first impression was right?

  1. Basshunter - Now You’re Gone: An incredible third week at number one for Basshunter. Now it’s not that good a song, is it?
  2. Adele - Chasing Pavements: Adele shows a strong second week for Chasing Pavements.
  3. Nickelback - Rock Star: ‘Cause we all just wanna be a big rawk star, living in big mansions driving fifteen cars. Well, no actually, that’s being a vapid celebrity. Just being devil’s advocate here, but wouldn’t a real Rock Star crave nothing more than rocking out for his fans night after night? Shame on you Kroeger.
  4. Rihanna - Don’t Stop The Music: Still got a thing for Rihanna’s thumping little club number. It’s not a classic, but it ticks all the right boxes for the moment.
  5. Lupe Fiasco ft Matthew Santos - Superstar: A slight drop in position for Lupe this week, but I reckon they’ll hold out in the top ten for a little while longer.
  6. Britney Spears - Piece Of Me: The tabloid-baiting trainwreck is actually getting acclaim for her latest album. Newsflash, idiots! She had virtually nothing to do with the writing or production. Miss Piggy could have sung this album and it’d be just as good. And Miss Piggy would look better in fishnets too.
  7. Kelly Rowland - Work: Completing the transformation from ugly duckling of Destiny’s Child to hot solo star, this one sounds a little too Beyonce for comfort. But the Freemasons remix is pretty cool.
  8. Scouting For Girls - Elvis Ain’t Dead: A team of untrained monkeys could come up with better music than this. What scares me more is how many of you are actually buying this. Just remember: listening to Scouting For Girls will rot your brain. What’s left of it anyway.
  9. Soulja Boy Tellem - Crank Dat: Alright, the show’s over. Can we shift the rest of Soulja Boy’s records to the bargain bin and see him in the “Best of the Noughties” review in about a decade?
  10. Robyn - Be Mine: I just can’t warm to Robyn. It’s nothing she’s done per se. She just comes along with these maddeningly repetitive songs and strange videos and people just lap the whole thing up. Why?
