UK Pop Chart - 20 January 2008

Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

Here’s the top ten for the week beginning 20 January 2008. Basshunter still hold the coveted top spot, while hot tip for 2008, Adele is the highest new entry at number two.

The charts are fairly static beyond the top ten, proved by the fact that a lot of older singles have reentered such as With Every Heartbeat and Gimme More. I’m also a little disappointed that The Wombats didn’t make top ten with Moving To New York, one of my favourite songs at the moment.

  1. Basshunter - Now You’re Gone: Further proof that dance music is going through a period of rebirth. Nice mainstream track, but dare I say slightly repetitive and forgettable?
  2. Adele - Chasing Pavements: Held off by Basshunter, Adele’s new soul classic is still presenting well on the charts. All eyes are on London’s new music star.
  3. Britney Spears - Piece Of Me: A funky tune, marred by Britney’s bleating about wanting a piece of her. No thanks love, you’re the dictionary definition of damaged goods.
  4. Lupe Fiasco ft Matthew Santos - Superstar: Lupe’s slick rap about the superstar lifestyle is still shifting units. I wonder if the exposure’s doing much for Matthew Santos’ career though?
  5. Rihanna - Don’t Stop The Music: The cutest lil’ pop chick on the block is back with a thumping dance number. It’s only a matter of time before I do something stupid, like declare her the new Madonna.
  6. Nickelback - Rockstar: Chad Kroeger, you owe me for the Strepsils I had to buy when singing your song wrecked my throat.
  7. Soulja Boy Tellem - Crank That: Anyone else getting a teensy bit tired of this one?
  8. Scouting For Girls - Elvis Ain’t Dead: I would willingly swap Scouting For Girls for a fully restored Elvis Presley, and I think the rest of you might back me up on that.
  9. Kanye West - Homecoming: Kanye teams up with Chris Martin. I’m automatically disappointed. First a collaboration with Michael Jackson, then Chris “don’t call me a Bono wannabe” Martin.
  10. Robyn - Be Mine: Despite looking like a photo negative of 90’s popster Gabrielle, Robyn continues to chart high with successive single releases. She weirds me out though…
