The Wombats - Let’s Dance To Joy Division
Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.
Maybe it’s the time of year, but this is such a geeky, studenty concept for a song that it’s pure enjoyment.
As the reviewers over on MusicOMH said, it’s hard to imagine two bands further apart than The Wombats and Joy Division, the later being such a dreary band that they didn’t rate with me at all back in the day.
Those Wombats, on the other hand are a joy (pardon ‘t pun) to listen to. In keeping with the new wave of British Indie, their sound is raw, upbeat and there’s humor in what they’re writing. And, like many bands post-Arctic Monkeys (yes, I named a new movement!), they’re not afraid to show off their regional accents.
The video doesn’t do much for me personally, the outstanding bit being frontman Matthew Murphy’s fuzzy barnett, and the weird bit being the Bohemian Rhapsody bit they do in the middle. Piss-taking Queen is a bit beaten to death by now, isn’t it?
All the same, a triumphant hit single, hopefully the exposure gives these guys a chance to show the UK what they can do.

Loved this, had it as a single of the week a while back but thought I was the only one that had noticed it…

Hi Rick. I was driving home from work the other day, absolutely knackered, and this came on the radio. Total breath of fresh air and I remember having a stupid grin on my face stuck in traffic on the Malone Road.
