The Streets – Everything Is Borrowed – new album cover and track listing

Well, here it is people, the album artwork for the new The Streets album, Everything Is Borrowed. It’s due to be in an online store near you on 15th September.

The lead single from Everything Is Borrowed is The Escapist, which is currently available as a free download from their official site. The second single is the album title track, Everything Is Borrowed.

From what we’re hearing, the new album should be a much more positive affair than the previous release, The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living. Some of the official blurb says:

From its uplifting title-track – a euphoric meditation on how to make the best of life’s infinite possibilities – to the almost mystical finale, “The Escapist” (wherein Mike Skinner happily ponders the insignificance of “little, fleeting, momentary me” in the dappled sunlight of his “favourite tree”), Everything Is Borrowed seems to be lit from within by a healing flame of optimism. Freed from celebrity hang-ups and savouring a thrilling rush of new-found perspective, Mike Skinner has made a record to console the lonely and bring a smile to the saddest visage. Warm-hearted, witty and utterly distinctive, this is music to help Britain through the credit-crunch.

Almost sounds a bit Zen, doesn’t it?

Ah man I just picked up this album and I have to say I’m a bit disappointed and this is coming from a huuuuge streets fan. I loved the previous albums because they sounded fresh and new, wicked garage beats mixed with awesome storytelling and entertaining lyrics but none of that is found on the new album. Maybe Skinner grew out of this scene and passed the torch to kids like Dizzee Rascal and the Mitchell bros but it’s not what I’m looking forward to hear. Don’t get me wrong, the album is very well produced and I think that Skinner’s flow might have even improved a bit but overall it sounds more like a 70’s gospel/funky mixdown with almost too much of “good vibrations” going on or something. I always thought that Skinner’s power lies in his storytelling, when he talks about how his missus left him, it brings a lump in your throat. When he’s talking about how he goes to the cashmachine and it gives him “insufficient funds” I can really relate to what he’s saying. This album on the other hand doesn’t relate to me at all. I’m glad I bought it though, even if it was only to make my “collection” complete. But I’m afraid that none of the tracks on this album will draw people to the stores to pick it off the shelve. Thanks for reading, peace.

i kind of dont agree for example i think everyone can relate to the track “what are the chances of that like” because everyone has been so low that they think they can go on but on the other hand i do agree with the fact that its the worst album as of yet but as a true fan im still going to rinse all the tracks lol also i think it is ok if mitchell bros rise up cus i also love them just as much nearly as much as i love example
