This is our first encounter with The Pigeon Detectives, although the band have been around since 2002. They’ve kept some good company in the intervening years, touring with Dirty Pretty Things and Kaiser Chiefs in 2006.
Interestingly, I’m Not Sorry was released last year, but only as a limited edition single. This year’s release has made the singles chart and the album Wait For Me has entered the album charts at #3. Not bad.
The single itself is a rough diamond of an indie track, and everything about it screams “This is a live band!!!”. I can only find performance videos of the song on YouTube, their MySpace has a ridiculously long list of upcoming gigs (they’re currently in Europe). The production is suitably rough, too - especially on the vocals in the early part of the track.
That’s not a complaint, by the way. The Pigeon Detectives have great energy and some interesting songs (check out Dick’ead on their MySpace). In the meantime, here’s a video of I’m Not Sorry for you to look at:
