Toothpaste Kisses is our first encounter with The Maccabees here on Unreality Music.

It’s a very old-sounding, stripped down song. Apparently the normal Maccabees sound is a much more lively punk noise. Instead, Toothpaste Kisses is a simple track mostly focusing on singer Orlando Weeks’ vocals and an understated mostly acoustic backing.

A nice touch is the slightly scratchy old-record sound you can hear on the backing.

The video is a moving collage of old photos showing various stages of a couple’s life together from courtship through family to old age. It’s quite a sweet touch.

Toothpaste Kisses was originally due to be released in October 2007, but is now being released on 7th January 2008.
