Sometimes the image presented by a band on the covers of metal magazines just doesn’t reflect the music. If The Kiss Of Dawn is anything to go by, HIM are another of those misrepresented bands.
In fact, the video upholds gothic images of graveyards, gnarled trees and an omnipresent full moon. And during the verses, it all works well. But the chorus is so melodic and sugary, it almost crosses the line into a type of pop-rock affair.
The Kiss Of Dawn is the first single from the new HIM album, Venus Doom. It was supposedly written for a friend of Ville Valo’s who had committed suicide.
The production values are exceptionally high with this single, and I love the smooth distortion and the overall power of the band. In case you hadn’t noticed, this is my first encounter with HIM, and I might just seek out more of their music to get a better idea of what they’re about.
This one gets an Unreality Music thumbs up. Here’s the video….
