True story: The first time I heard Tenacious D’s debut album, it almost killed me. I’d been given a copy of the album and played it in the car. Somewhere around Wonderboy, I was laughing so hard I nearly drove off the side of the road. Forget explicit lyrics – we need health warnings on Comedy Metal albums!

Tribute has to be the pinnacle of Tenacious D’s powers – their ability to mercilessly lampoon old Heavy Metal while still coming across as loving the genre at the same time.

The strength of the song is in the lyrics and Jack Black’s sneering delivery. After a subtle acoustic guitar intro, the band kicks in and then – Rock ONNNNNNNNN! – becomes one of the most memorable lines in rock history!

The video’s absolutely fantastic, featuring Dave Grohl as Satan on lead guitar, really captures what these guys are about. Excellent tune, I cannot rave about it enough!
