Here’s the UK top 10 for the week beginning 7 October 2007.

  1. Sugababes - About You Now: The ‘Babes hold the top spot for a second week in a row, scotching any suggestion that they might falter without Mutya at the helm.
  2. Ida Corr v Fedde Le Grande - Let Me Think About It:
  3. Shayne Ward - No U Hang Up: No Shayne, you hang up…
  4. 50 Cent - Ayo Technology: If the boys are tired of using technology, I’d love to see them ditching their various Blackberries and stuff.
  5. Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah: Another week in the top 10 for the tee’s…
  6. Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls: …and likewise for Mr Kingston. Nice to see a follow-up single soon.
  7. Mark Ronson ft Amy Winehouse - Valerie: The slightly too fast cover of The Zutons’ hit would be a great return to form for Winehouse. If she’d bothered to show up for the video shoot!
  8. Feist - 1, 2, 3, 4: The catchiest song in the charts this week, flying high on the strength of a global advertising campaign. You should listen to more stuff by Feist.
  9. Scouting For Girls - She’s So Lovely: All kinds of light-hearted fun on this single from the Harrow-based three piece. Looks like its last week in the top 10…
  10. Kanye West - Stronger:

It’s all change at the top of the singles chart this week as Sean Kingston gets dethroned by the return of the Sugababes, and Shayne Ward makes a surprise appearance at the number two spot.

  1. Sugababes - About You Now: Surprise entry from the ‘babes
  2. Shayne Ward - No U Hang Up: Who’d have thought Shan-ye Ward would have seen this side of the top 10 ever again?
  3. 50 Cent - Ayo Technology: Fitty and the boys are holding on to chart supremacy without an awful lot of effort. Somebody out there loves ya Fitty.
  4. Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls: Sean’s been knocked off the top spot and ended up halfway down the top 10. We reckon he’ll stick around here for a couple of weeks yet.
  5. Ida Corr v Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It:
  6. Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah: Time for a new single from the T’s? A bit like Scouting For Girls below, these new bands need to capitalize on their success by releasing some new material on the strength of these initial hits.
  7. Kanye West - Stronger: On the slow descent from the chart….
  8. James Blunt - 1973: Still haven’t heard this too much on the radio. Has anyone even seen a video for it yet?
  9. Scouting For Girls - She’s So Lovely: Dropping a couple of places, Scouting For Girls haven’t wasted much time in releasing their album. Seems a bit premature, try releasing a few singles first boys.
  10. Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive: Uh-oh, looks like Rihanna could be heading out of the top 10 after this week. Looks like Shut Up And Drive doesn’t have the same staying power as Umbrella.

Notably missing, the Foo Fighters only got a peek into the chart last week and disappeared again very suddenly. Now, with a number of other acts on the slippery slope, next week’s chart could be a very different scene altogether…

UK Pop Charts - 23 September 2007

Not much change in the UK top 10 this week. Standout tracks are Stronger by Kanye, The Pretender by Foo fighters and Shut Up And Drive by Rihanna. Delivery by Babyshambles seems to be getting a fair bit of attention, and rightly so. It’s a vindication of all the hype that we’ve heard about Pete Doherty this last few years.

UK Pop Charts - 16 September 2007

Welcome to the UK top 10 for 16th September. A pretty good chart this week with a good mix of pop, hip-hop and other stuff. Sean Kingston is holding up the top spot with Beautiful Girls, and the Plain White T’s are looking to be a fixture for a few more weeks.

Here’s the line-up…

  1. Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls: Kingston’s likeable reggae rehash of Stand By Me is still riding high in the charts. Tell me you haven’t been singing it in your shower…
  2. Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah: Still loving the gentle acoustic ode to unrequited love.
  3. Kanye West - Stronger: Bigger, better, faster, stronger. Yup, Kanye is ticking all the right boxes with this tune while not resting on the formula that made Late Registration such a success.
  4. James Blunt - 1973: When homicidal feelings start rising, you know Blunt’s released another single. Goddammit. Worse still, I sorta like this one.
  5. 50 Cent - Ayo Technology: Even the collaboration with the Timber Brothers can’t save this from being a snoozefest. 50 is such a bloody robot.
  6. Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive: The cutest girl in pop right now, but can she push Shut Up And Drive to the #1 spot?
  7. Girls Aloud - Sexy No No No: Five PVC-clad popstrels (I stole that word from Smash Hits) and a blazing track that we won’t be tiring of anytime soon.
  8. Robyn ft Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat: Robyn and her despairing pop video face are getting a little tedious. And. It. Hurts. With. Every. Repeat.
  9. Timbaland ft Keri Hilson - The Way I Are: Timbaland doesn’t leave the charts easily, and this track’s hanging in there alongside his collaboration with 50 Cent, giving him two Top 10 tracks this week.
  10. Scouting For Girls - She’s So Lovely: Great pop track - rowdy, uplifting and memorable. Don’t have a clue who these folks are, but damn good effort…

UK Pop Charts - 19 August 2007 Edition

This week, Kanye West knocked Robyn off the top of the charts with Stronger. Not much change in the top 10 though, most of the action is in the lower half of the charts, some pretty good music on the horizon.

Anyway, here’s the top 10 for this week:
