They say all good things come to an end, and that applies to reunited megabands like The Police. They’ve decided that after 30 additional US shows in May and July (and 15 European gigs in June), they’ll hang up their helmets for good. Maybe the police/helmet pun wasn’t too obvious there :)

The band - featuring Sting, Andy Summers and Stuart Copeland - will not be continuing to work together, and it has been emphasised that this is their final tour. No Spice Girls style “wave a wad of notes in our faces and we’ll see what we can do” incentives here.

Their reunion tour has been one of the most successful tours of all time, and The Police will have played to in the region of 3 million fans and grossed over $340 million dollars by the time they’re resting on their private jets home.

According to Billboard, the additional dates are in cities that haven’t previously been visited by the tour, giving more fans the opportunity to see The Police live before they disappear for good.

I get the feeling that the band have no more interest in continuing as a nostalgia act. And in stark contrast to the aforementioned Spice Hags, it’s nice to see a band who can celebrate their legacy without feeling the need to milk it so blatantly.
