The Sun is reporting that rent-a-gob Sarah Harding is putting together a plan for a solo career.

The Sun is reporting that rent-a-gob Sarah Harding is putting together a plan for a solo career.

However, the word is that she’s been knocked back by several high profile management teams. Despite this, Sarah apparently harbours a dream to be “Britain’s answer to Kylie Minogue”. I have three words for Sarah…

Lisa Scott-Lee

Face it, there are certain members of a pop group who can carry a career beyond their original band. Nadine’s probably best known for her singing voice. Cheryl and Kimberley are the stunners of the group. Sarah unfortunately is best known as a gobby ladette.

In his article for The Sun, Gordon Smart claims that Sarah has the “right personality and that all-important sex appeal”. Surprisingly, I disagree. Although I remember Sarah Harding as being one of the better vocalists on Popstars: The Rivals, she’s not the most prominent member of Girls Aloud.

If I’m being truthful, I can’t see many of the girls making a successful career in music after they split. Even if they do, there’s not a great history of people from manufactured pop groups making it big solo.

Let’s look at their peers – Rachel Stevens managed to limp along solo for a while before giving up. No-one from Atomic Kitten managed a successful solo career – they mostly live off reality TV shows these days. Think about the Spice Girls, All Saints, etc.

Gordon reckons Sarah will have a solo single out within the next 18 months. Interestingly, he doesn’t offer any comment on whether it’ll be a hit or not. What do you think?
