Jarvis Cocker & Mutya Buene Headline Knife Crime Concert

Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker and former Sugababe Mutya Buene are headlining a London concert to raise awareness of the city’s knife crime culture.

Dozens of teenagers have died in gang-related stabbings in 2008 alone. Organisers of the South Bank Centre event want to persuade young people to stop carrying blades, and hope music will help get the message across.

B-Boy Baby is truly a ‘what the hell?’ moment in the solo career of Ms Mutya Buena. As in what the hell were you thinking???

The hook for B-Boy Baby is lifted off the classic Ronettes track, Be My Baby. Unlike Sean Kingston, who managed to rip off Stand By Me to some degree of success, Mutya fouls it up royally by jumping between hip-hop and soul sounds.

The Groove Armada bunny Song-4-Mutya-coverreturns with a reinvigorated Mutya Buena. This song’s been doing the rounds for a while now, although it was only released last week (23 July 2007).

This, and Mutya’s last single will have critics wondering whether Sugababes have lost a key member. Let’s face it, with the electronic fuzz that dominates this single and the disco-pop sensibilities could have been a natural follow-on from the Sugababes’ Freak Like Me.

Though life after Sugababes hasn’t exactly been a bed of roses for Siobhan Donaghy, things are looking good for the other ex-Sugababe, Mutya Buena.

While we were expecting her to sink without trace after her departure from Sugababes, she’s come back strong recently with various high-profile collaborations and the single Real Girl from the album of the same name.
