Rihanna has revealed on GMTV how much she’s enjoyed teaming up with Maroon 5 on their next single, If I Never See Your Face Again.

Speaking to GMTV’s Carla Romano in LA, the Good Girl Gone Bad said that working alongside the pop rockers was “Awesome for me”.

She went on to heap praise on the lads, saying: “Maroon 5 are one of my favourite bands and when they approached me to do this record, I was like, ‘Any song, I don’t care if it’s a song that I don’t like – I want to do it because Maroon 5 is dope’. But fortunately I love this song, I think it’s a smash.”

Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine, said there was such chemistry on set he found it hard to concentrate. “Well I always find it hard to concentrate – so she doesn’t make it any easier.”

Adam continued to rain compliments on the Umbrella star, revealing just why he wanted to work with her: “She’s obviously beautiful and talented and amazing, and I just thought,’Hey, there’s really no better choice.”

“Yeah, we do have chemistry,” he continued. “You don’t really know until you show up and do the video. So the fact that it worked out today is incredible because you can also, it can go the opposite direction. So thank god we did have chemistry.”

The chemistry was also felt by Rihanna who, when asked to describe Adam in one word, said “Hot”.

Let’s get this out of the way at the start: Adam Levine’s vocals on Won’t Go Home Without You bear more than a passing resemblance to Phil Collins. And the bassline bears a similarity to Every Breath You Take by The Police.

OK, on the chorus Adam gets a little bit high pitched, but you could totally see Phil Collins performing this song, couldn’t you?

We’re not complaining. Won’t Go Home is still a well crafted pop song, and easily as strong a single as the preceding two from It Won’t Be Soon Before Long.

I suppose the comparisons above mean that Won’t Go Home has all the ingredients for classic chart conquering music. I think I’ll award this one a thumbs up.

But nope, they’re back again with new single, Makes Me Wonder and sounding as funky and fresh as ever. Popjustice said it best:

[They sound] sounding not dissimilar to what might be hoped for from Prince or Jamiroquai had both not gone off the boil several million years ago

You can’t say fairer than that, although Adam Levine’s falsetto is disturbingly good, if not a little bit annoying by the end of the track.

Regardless, Maroon 5 have managed to bring back the magic with a cracking, radio-friendly sing-along tune. While the lyrics are pretty take-it-or-leave it, the groove is excellent and we’d kill for the guitar sound. It’ll be interesting to see what they follow it up with!
