Questions are being raised about Lupe Fiasco’s future in music with the announcement of his new album title – LupE.N.D. The three letters at the end are said to stand for "everywhere," "nowhere" and "down here”. Puts me in mind of Extreme’s III Sides To Every Story concept from the 90’s.

Idolator point out that this might be an indulgent affair, and certainly the last artist to even dare putting out a triple disc was Prince. And even that one failed to shift units.

It’s possible that the album will be broken down into a concept affair, and that this is Lupe taking his art to the next level. Considering that Lupe’s only released two albums to date, I think it’s a little soon to be talking about retirement, don’t you? Unless it’s retirement in the Jay-Z sense, which means he’ll cameo on other people’s albums for a bit and then release another one.

Anyway, the last word on the Idolator article is worth a wry smile, because it sums things up pretty well…

I actually like Lupe quite a bit (despite finding The Cool a bit confounding), but if he isn’t intending to close his career by releasing a three-disc set, he might find his career closed for him.

With Lupe finally making moves into the mainstream, I doubt either retirement or an indulgent 3 disc album should be on his agenda right now. I’d hate for all his hard work up to this point to be pissed away.

In these parts, Lupe Fiasco is still better known as Kanye West’s sidekick in the Touch The Sky video.

All that could be about to change though, when Mr Fiasco releases Superstar, an amazingly slick R&B groove about every rapper’s favourite subject: the high life.

Like Kanye, Lupe can throw out some interesting lyrics, and has a similar rapping style to Mr West too. So what am I saying? Slightly derivative, but like Kanye, Lupe is part of that movement which is taking rap away from the image of horny, stoned gangstas and giving the audience intelligent lyrics dressed up in some very chart friendly beats.

Lupe is joined on the chorus by a guy called Matthew Santos, who sounds for all the world like Bono. But that’s a good thing, right?

Anyway, check out some of the lyrics:

So just take me home where the mood is mellow
And the roses are thrown
M&M’s are yellow
And the light bulbs around my mirror don’t flicker
Everybody gets a nice autograph picture
One for you and one for your sister

And here’s the video, complete with red carpets, limos and big ass sunglasses:

Superstar is from Lupe’s second album, The Cool.
