Kylie Minogue – Wow – Single Review

kylie-wow

We’ve been a bit hard on Kylie here at Unreality Music lately. 2 Hearts didn’t light a fire under us, and we felt she might have gone off her game a little bit.

However, her new single Wow is a bit of a return to form. It’s a classic Kylie floor filler, one of those giddy pop songs like Spinning Around which seems to center around some hot-bloke-inspired delirium.

Kylie’s Wow Video Censored

Kylie Minogue’s latest video, Wow, has been censored by Ofcom.

What, I hear you ask, was it all the bare flesh and gyrating? No, folks. Why would a sexy video be at all shocking these days? The reason for the ban on the video is the fear that all the strobe effects would have epileptics up and down the country shaking like billy-o.

It’s a bit of bad news for ol’ Kylie, since Wow is released on 18 February. The video will have to be re-shot, so presumably they’ll miss out on crucial pre-release publicity for the single. Oops.

Is Kylie The Latest EMI Casualty?

Despite lots of television coverage recently with her own one-off show and a spot on Doctor Who, Kylie’s latest album, X, isn’t setting the music world on fire.

Apparently the pocket-sized Aussie is disappointed at the poor album sales and is pointing her finger at EMI. Although the album was released in late November, X has only sold 315,000 copies to date.

Kylie joins a growing line of artists who are displeased with EMI since the takeover of Guy Hands and his Terra Firma company. On the other hand, it seems like Terra Firma believe the artist roster at EMI has more than a little dead weight.

Radiohead and EMI recently had a public war of words over the failed renegotiation of their recording contract. Apparently Robbie Williams and Coldplay are other EMI acts who are unhappy with the current situation.

The big question is: if EMI trim the fat off their label, are they planning to launch other world class acts to replace the likes of Radiohead? Or do they want to get rid of the expensive acts and simply replace them with salaried pop puppets? Watch this space.

Kylie Launches Social Networking Site: Kylie Konnect

I think I called Kylie ‘old fashioned’ a few weeks ago for releasing her single, Two Hearts to radio first. I was appalled at the time that a YouTube clip wasn’t even available.

According to the news today, Kylie has launched her own social network, called Kylie Konnect. I signed up to the site to get a feel for it, but I’m not impressed! Why?

Kylie Minogue’s 2 Hearts Leaked Online

I heard Kylie’s new single 2 Hearts on Radio 1 today. A shockingly old fashioned way to release music, Kylie gave it a ‘radio only’ release. There isn’t even a video on YouTube yet – what the hell’s that about?

Even more old fashioned – the only place I can find the video is on Kylie’s own website. It’s not even flash embedded, you’ve got to stream it in Windows Media or Realplayer. How long has she been away?
