It seems that Dr Pepper has had a kind of laxative effect on Axl Rose, because there’s been a ‘run’ of Guns N Roses news in the last few days. Rumours of a reality TV show and speculation that Axl has already delivered an album to Geffen. A completed album.
The Axl Rose Show?
Idolator are skeptical about the idea of Axl doing a reality TV show. Sure, it makes sense to build some pre-launch buzz for Chinese Democracy. They focus on the credentials of the sites breaking the news. However, read the source, they’ve got their tenses all screwed up.
On one hand, they’re citing that the idea has only just been pitched. On the other, they’re claiming that there’s “a lot of footage to choose from. Some of it is incredibly personal and revealing about Axl’s life.” OK, so we could be talking about highly scripted reality TV here. Let’s face it, is there any other kind?

I’m hearing reports that Velvet Revolver have fired frontman Scott Weiland after a few weeks of turmoil which began when Weiland told fans at a gig that they were watching the last ever Velvet Revolver concert.
Fired? That’s a funny way of describing it. In case Slash & Co didn’t notice, Weiland had resumed his role as frontman for the recently reformed Stone Temple Pilots. And STP are heading out on the road for a summer tour.

I love this! After years (and years) of stalling on the release of Chinese Democracy, Dr Pepper has taunted Axl Rose by offering everyone in America a free drink if he releases the album in 2008.
What a slap in the teeth when a major soft drinks company takes a ‘pop’ at your expense!
Rose has stalled on releasing Chinese Democracy numerous times and Guns N’ Roses fans have almost given up hope of ever seeing the album released. I personally believe it doesn’t actually exist and is a marketing gimmick to keep a lingering interest in GNR in order to shift their wonderful back catalog. Let’s face it, Rose could not release an album today that would sound anything like the GNR we all fell in love with back in ‘88.

Possibly the biggest pitfall of being a world famous rocker like Slash is that no-one wants to talk about your current music. They just want the gossip on Guns N Roses, if he’s fighting with Axl and what he thinks of Chinese Democracy.
There’s a short interview with Slash over on 210sa.com where they tip him a couple of mandatory questions about Velvet Revolver, then launch straight into a grilling about GNR.

Top-hatted rock god Slash and the guys from Velvet Revolver are rumoured to be working on material for their third album. Apparently the band could begin work on the new album as early as April of this year, just after they complete their tour (which starts tomorrow, by the way).
“That’s the big thing right now,” Slash says. “I’m really jazzed about doing it. I’ve been working on new ideas, and we’ve had a couple times where the guys all got together and worked on some stuff. I’m itching to see what this third record’s gonna be, ’cause I think it’s gonna be fuckin’ awesome, and I think we don’t necessarily need to spend two years on the road like we did last time.”

I wonder what Steven Adler’s bandmates think of his constant assertions that he’d love to reunite the original Guns N’ Roses lineup.
Let’s face it, Adler’s Appetite would probably run out of steam pretty quickly, leaving the other members just an over-glorified tribute band. And I don’t understand where he’s getting the idea that the other Gunners are buying into the idea. None of them seem to have commented publicly so far.
Which - I think you’ll agree - leaves the most washed-up member of the classic Guns N’ Roses lineup craving a reunion. Hmmm. If you were Adler, would you rather be in a tribute band to GNR or be back in the drum stool behind your old compadres? Read More »
