We were not expecting this. A few years ago, the Observer Music Magazine was trumpeting Guillemots as the next big thing. Thing is, they never really hit the mainstream. And judging by how absurdly offbeat they are, I didn’t really expect them to hit the mainstream anyway.

And the story should end there. Except they went and unexpectedly released Get Over It.

How to do this single justice? Get Over It is a jubilant, over-dramatic ride that stops off via the 1980’s and steals some of the decade’s essential musical themes.

The Guillemots have finally released a song that the general public can get down with, while still being true to their own quirky style. And every jaded music reviewer should be welcoming this band with open arms for putting out such fantastic, fresh music.

Written by Fyfe Dangefield and co-produced with Adam Noble, ‘Annie, Lets Not Wait’ is the fourth track to be taken from the debut album and follows the hit singles ‘Trains to Brazil’, ‘We’re Here’ and ‘Made-Up Lovesong #43′.

The video to accompany the single is beautifully animated and apparently aims to recreate the visual feeling of one of the first feature length animated films ever, Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed.

The single has been released on two cds and also on seven inch vinyl. CD1 features a bonus strings-only version of ‘We’re Here’, while CD2 features the demo track ‘Photograph’, the Live Lounge recording of Franz Ferdinand’s ‘Take Me Out’ and the accompanying video. The 7″ vinyl includes the B-side ‘In Your Arms’.

I have only listened to this song a few times now and already I can’t get it out of my head. If all the Guillemots songs are as catchy as this I am definitely going to buy the album!
