Fergie ft Ludacris - Glamorous

Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

Just caught the new Glamorous video from Fergie. You know it’s all about her high-rolling life (courtesy of the more talented guys in Black Eyed Peas).

I spotted an inconsistency though - on the plane she’s making eyes at the air steward pouring her champaigne. Now, if you were a bling bling hip-hop babe like Fergie, surely you’d be setting your sights on higher profile types? Apparently not, she looks like she’s about to leap on him, like Carry-On style:

Anyway, so after I stopped imagining Fergie chasing the pilot/steward guy around the plane, I started to seriously review the song. Glamorous is a little bit more laid back than Fergie’s previous efforts. The beat stays in a slow, smooth groove for the most part, interrupted only for Ludacris’ rap somewhere in the middle.

Actually, it’s the complete reversal of a rap song. Remember when (insert-famous-rapper-here) would rap the full song, only to have (insert-hot-singer) sing bits of the chorus? Well, turn it around and you get more of the hot babe with a reasonably good rap bit. Works for me ;)

For my part, I’m not too impressed with Fergie’s solo career to date. The material is weaker than what she’s released with Black Eyed Peas, much less hook-laden and memorable. It does the job, but it’s watered down a lot.

And do we need another bling anthem? Glamorous is one of those Jenny From The Block moments that just doesn’t quite cut it. Watch the video and see what I mean.

Who’s Cloning Who? Fergie Versus Gwen Stefani

Hot on the heels of my Sweet Escape review, I came across this article that compares Fergie and Gwen Stefani:

Round 2: Hollaback Girl vs. Fergalicious
Verdict: The same song.

Hollaback Girl - A song with hard-hitting beats and a very danceable beat. The (white) girl who sings the song raps. The song is about herself and the envy others have for her. Contains spelling. “This shit is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S.”

Fergalious - A song with hard-hitting beats and a very danceable beat. The (white) girl who sings the song raps. The song is about herself and the envy others have for her. Contains spelling. “D to the E to the L-I-C-I-O-U-S.”

You’ve got to admit, the evidence is pretty damning. Stefani has the kudos of No Doubt and a decent back catalog to fall back on. Fergie’s a bit of an upstart, but she’s rolling with the Black Eyed Peas, easily one of the hottest acts of the last 5 years.

Anyway, over to you - who do you prefer: Fergie Ferg or Gwen Stefani?
