UK Pop Chart - 13 May 2007

Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

There’s been some shifting around in the pop charts this week, as the formidable duo - Beyonce, Beyonce and Shakira, Shakira - finally get knocked off the #1 spot by McFly, McFly (sorry).

Travis, who peeked their heads into the Top 10 last week are gone again, while the Manics’ comeback single is already on the way back out. I’m most pleased to see Linkin Park enter the top 10 with What I’ve Done a powerfully miserable song that Unreality Music has yet to cover. Don’t worry, we’ll soon fix that!

What’s that? The chart? OK, here it is…..

  1. McFly - Baby’s Coming Back: Never underestimate the buying power of teenage girls…..
  2. Beyonce/Shakira - Beautiful Liar: Ah, this could be the start of their descent from the top 10. I’m sure both have something equally hot waiting for us, right?
  3. Akon - Don’t Matter: There seems to be no escape from the helium-voiced R&B dude. Don’t matter though.
  4. Gym Class Heroes - Cupid’s Chokehold: Still riding high with their remake of Supertramp’s Breakfast In America. Still loving the tune.
  5. Scootch - Flying The Flag: Whether this was the result of some kind of misplaced patriotism or a cruel practical joke, I hope this band disappear into whatever hole they’ve been hiding in for the last few years. Seriously, can the Queen have them beheaded for treason or something? Go fly someone else’s flag! Hey, they got what they deserved.
  6. Linkin Park - What I’ve Done: Brilliant track! Slap on too much mascara, crank the volume up on this sucker and grind on your imaginary guitar for the next 4 minutes. Sweet.
  7. Timbaland - Give It To Me: Seems like the slowest chart descent ever….
  8. Manic Street Preachers - Your Love Alone: Not getting the radio play it deserves. On reflection, it may sound slightly dated, begging the question “Have the Manics had their day?”
  9. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend: Listened to her album the other day. You can really spot the singles, lots of filler in there.
  10. Amerie - Take Control: Uh. Take control of me. Whatever you say, Amerie. Welcome to the top 10.

Well peeps, that’s your lot for tonight. Let me know your predictions for next week’s top 10 and any upcoming singles you’re liking at the moment.

UK Pop Chart - 29 April 2007

Not much change in the UK pop charts this week as Beyonce and Shakira keep their stranglehold on the number one spot. How do we get Ne*Yo out of the charts? Who is buying his plastic off-the-shelf brand of R&B?

Anyway, here’s the run-down of this week’s top ten: Read & comment »

UK Pop Chart - 22 April 2007

All change this week in the pop chart, as the Beyonce/Shakira collaboration takes the top spot, dislodging Timbaland and denying the Arctic Monkeys their rightful place at #1.

Let’s look at the charts:

  1. Beyonce/Shakira - Beautiful Liar. Two of the hottest babes in pop coupled with a sultry Eastern-sounding tune. Still can’t tell them apart in the video, but who cares?
  2. Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm. The darlings of the British Indie scene return with a barnstormer of a song in advance of their second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare. Not enough support to hit #1. Maybe next week?
  3. Timbaland - Give It To Me. I’m really getting into this track now. Still want to see more of Timbaland up front. Either that or he, Timberlake and Furtado just need to get a band (or a room).
  4. Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend. If you thought this was the most annoying song in the top ten this week, look three spaces down. It still has classic Lavigne attitude, but is it too juvenile for her hardcore fans?
  5. Mark Ronson ft Daniel Merriweather - Stop Me. Classic soul sound a la Gnarls Barkley, cleverly taking on The Smiths and The Supremes in one handy tune.
  6. Ne*Yo - Because Of You. Ne*Yo wrong footed me with his first single, and he continues to release sophisticated but soulless R&B. If he keeps this up, we’re going to have serious beef between us. Dawg.
  7. Natasha Bedingfield - I Wanna Have Your Babies. There’s nothing romantic or clever about this. The ultimate contraceptive is a woman - any woman - singing about having your babies. Men - run away. Fast.
  8. Enemy - Away From Here. Totally missed this no-frills indie track from a no-frills band with bad haircuts. Let me know what you think in the comments.
  9. The Proclaimers - (I’m Gonna Roll) 500 Miles. Definitely time for the Comic Relief track to fade away. The funniest moment for me was when they chanted “Bobby Davro” to the chorus!
  10. Gwen Stefani ft Akon - The Sweet Escape. Alright, it’s growing on me…. ’nuff said.

So there you go folks, your top ten this week. Tell me what you’re loving/hating in the comments and your predictions for next week’s chart!
