Amy Greenhouse at Glastonbury 2008

After her adventures at the Make a NOise carnival, Amy Greenhouse is back. This time, she joined us at Glastonbury to show the farm a bit of love. The question is, where’s Trace?

Amy Winehouse having an affair? Sorry Blake, you’re dumped.

Well, it looks like Mrs Fielder-Civil – otherwise known as Amy Winehouse – has been getting busy while Blakey’s been ‘incarcerated’. The Sun is reporting that Amy’s been involved with two blokes recently – an American photographer called Blake Wood, and her manager’s assistant, Alex Haines.

Allegedly the relationship with Blake Wood only lasted a couple of weeks, but from what I’m reading, Amy and Alex Haines are currently an item.

Prepare To Be Depressed By Amy Winehouse’s New Album

The ongoing saga of Amy Winehouse has taken another sad turn with reports that she’s working on her next album.

You might think that Amy getting back to work is a positive thing, but the word is that her latest batch of songs are wrist-slashingly depressing affairs reflecting the last 12 months of turmoil she’s been through.

On the positive side, there are claims that this is Amy’s best work to date. But increasingly I’m getting the feeling that this is one artist who’s burning up much too quickly and we (the public/her fans) can only watch helplessly from the sidelines as she self-destructs. Part of me wonders if there’ll even be an Amy Winehouse in 2 years’ time.

Amy Winehouse Going To The Grammy Awards (via satellite!)

amy-winehouse

It’s been a while sine we wrote about Amy Winehouse here on Unreality Music. I’m sort of aware that we’re not a celebrity gossip site, and I don’t want to bore you with the minutiae of tabloid tittle-tattle. There are plenty of places you can go for that.

Anyway, Amy’s left a short stint in rehab, and judging by the absence of photos in the papers of Amy looking wasted, it looks like she’s making a good recovery.

However, the well-publicised videos of her taking drugs have come back to haunt her. She’s been denied a visa to go over an perform at this year’s Grammy Awards. Since Amy’s been nominated for six awards, it would have been an excellent opportunity for her to overcome the bad reputation she’s built over the last year.

And Winehouse Gets Arrested…

Sad to report tonight that Amy Winehouse’s career has taken a further nose dive. She’s been arrested in connection with her husband’s involvement in apparently attempting to pervert the course of justice.

What connects Amy to Blake’s trial is simple: money. According to the story, Blake and his co-accused approached the victim and offered him £200,000 to call the trial off. And where would a scrawny layabout like Blakey-wakey get that kind of money from?

Amy Winehouse Tour Cancelled

Yep, you heard right, Amy Winehouse has cancelled the remainder of her disastrous tour.

There seem to be two distinct lines of communication from the Winehouse camp: the record company is euphemistically claiming Amy has health issues and has been ordered to take complete rest.

However, Amy is tooting a different tune – she doesn’t “want to do the shows half-heartedly”, but feels that without the upstanding citizen that she calls husband, “it’s just not the same”.

Mark Ronson And Amy Winehouse Cover Valerie

mark-ronson-version The planets are aligned at the moment for Mark Ronson and anyone he deigns to collaborate with. Dude just can’t put a foot wrong at the moment.

This latest release sees Ronson and Winehouse teaming up on a lethal cover of The Zuton’s Valerie. True to Winehouse’s style, the track has that classic retro soul vibe, albeit more uptempo than we remember the original recording being.

Review Round-up: Amy Winehouse – Back To Black

It’s been a while since we did a review round-up. Today’s round-up looks at one of my favourite albums this year, Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black. In the style of other review roundups, we’ll be looking to blogger’s opinions rather than relying on mainstream reviews. Jump over the picture to get started…

Amy Winehouse – Tears Dry On Their Own

I’m lamenting the tabloid coverage of Amy Winehouse at the moment, and Tears Dry On Their Own is a fine example of why.Just listen to this song and watch its accompanying video – Winehouse has, as I said before – a rare vulnerability that she communicates whenever she sings. It’s like, despite that larger-than-life beehive and the sinewy body, there’s a scared and sensitive little girl hiding inside.

The Amy Winehouse Tabloid Fiasco

You’d have to be blind lately to have missed the tabloid coverage over Amy Winehouse and her self-destructive behaviour.

I’m not sure what to make of it all: is Winehouse simply tabloid target of the month, of is there something deeper going on here? Part of the attraction of Amy Winehouse – both as a tabloid ‘character’ and a singer/songwriter – is her emotional turmoil. The heavy makeup and towering beehive seem to accentuate her bizarre persona.

However, the tabloids seem to take exceptional glee in watching Winehouse self-destruct – look at the cutting incident during an interview with Spin magazine. But if you look at the video of that footage, both Amy and her husband Blake seem to be laughing off the whole thing. So is the whole thing being blown out of all proportion? I think maybe so.

Maybe it’s that Amy’s style conjures up memories of an era where pop stars regularly became overwhelmed by fame and it was commonplace to find overdosed celebrities dead in their beds the next morning. But we’re living in a far more media-savvy generation. Is Amy:

  • immune to the tabloid coverage
  • more likely to act up to get more of this type of attention, or
  • is she in serious danger of hurting herself (or someone else)?

I’m not pretending to know what the answers are in this case, but I do worry about this constant hounding of and artist by the same press that frequently decry the death of their “Princess Of Hearts” at the hands of the paparazzi. What do you think?
