Sadly, as the autumn turns to winter, the prospects of a new Aerosmith album in your Christmas stocking this year dwindle and fade…

With rock-legend and scarf fetishist Steven Tyler and Joe ‘Cheekbones’ Perry both crocked during the year, Aerosmith only have a half-recorded album, and we’d all prefer to wait for the finished version. Thanks very much.

‘Smith guitarist Brad Whitford has said

We’re sitting on a bunch of music we’ve already recorded for a new album. We haven’t gone back into the studio the put the final touches on it and get it done and still don’t know when we’re gonna do that. Hopefully it’ll be sooner rather than later.

Effectively, this will make it an eight year gap between albums – discounting the 2004 blues covers platter, Honkin’ On Bobo. And the more I think about it, the more I find myself salivating for new Aerosmith material.

With the current resurgence of some of my all-time favourite bands, Aerosmith’s next album will be entirely welcome in my record collection…when it eventually arrives in 2009!

In the meantime, why don’t you tell me what your favourite Aerosmith album is? I’m stuck between Rocks and Pump.

I read an interesting piece over on ZME music speculating on a possible new Aerosmith album in the making. Apparently Joe Perry spoke on a New York radio show about his son’s band and the problems that have got in the way of a new Aerosmith record.

We also found out that Aerosmith had an album in the making for a whole lot of time, but they hit dumps numerous times, so after these setbacks they decided they had to do things more seriously, so they’ll begin working just a few weeks from now. Great news also to hear that Aerosmith guitarist is feeling better than ever and he’s great to make a fantastic record!

The last I read about Aerosmith, there seemed to be a bit of infighting around Steven Tyler’s egomania. It’s sort of good to hear that the ‘Smith are back on track and ready to record something new. They’ve got an awesome legacy to uphold – fingers crossed that they can match the quality of some of their classic stuff. Watch this space.

On their own, Girls Aloud and Sugababes are class acts and have both managed to pull off fantastic cover versions in the past.

So, what’s going on here? The singing is lacklustre, and that droning “walk this way you wanna talk this way” is terrible. The backing track is hard to distinguish, and that signature Walk This Way riff sounds mechanical.

I have a long-standing respect for Aerosmith, and seeing one of their best-known tunes butchered is more important than the eye candy element! And by the way – does anyone else think Nadine Coyle’s eyelid fluttering is getting more ridiculous with each video?

If it wasn’t for the charity element, it’d be a complete write-off.
