Adele – Chasing Pavements – Single Review

Adele - Chasing Pavements

During the Brit Awards announcements, Adele said that she couldn’t understand all the hype surrounding her. After all, it’s not like she’s done anything yet.

I get the impression that’s all about to change with the release of Chasing Pavements today (21 January 2008). You’d be forgiven for thinking this was Adele’s debut, but Chasing Pavements is actually her second single (after October’s Hometown Glory).

Bullet For My Valentine – Scream Aim Fire – Single Review

scream-aim-fire

Wales’ finest metal act – Bullet For My Valentine – return to the scene with new single Scream, Aim, Fire. This is my first experience of the band but…damn! After a gutfull of pop music recently, it’s satisfying to hear good old-school metal like this: heavy, intense, brutal.

I’m actually stoked that the UK is still putting out metal acts with this ferocity. Matt Tuck’s throat-ripping screams are awesome. If what I’m reading is correct, he’s not even at full strength due to an illness.

Extra credit to the amazing drumming from Michael Thomas – that guy knows how to pound the skins. Unfortunately, I can only point you to the Scream, Aim, Fire video since YouTube doesn’t allow embeds on this one.

Brit Awards 2008 Nominations

Hollywood might not be able to have any decent awards ceremonies this year because the writers are revolting, but the Brits are going ahead with the Brit…er…awards.

The list of nominees has been released today, and the awards show will be on 20th February at London’s Earls Court. Here are the 2008 Brits nominees in full:

Bodyrox ft Luciana – What Planet You On? – Single Review

what-planet

Bodyrox wowed us a little while ago with their single Yeah Yeah, and now they return with What Planet You From? to prove it wasn’t a fluke.

I’m finding myself a little bit more enamoured with the UK dance music scene with every new release. There’s a much more creative vibe, marrying edgy vocals (like Luciana in this instance) to producers who can crank out the most amazing sounds.

Scouting For Girls – Elvis Ain’t Dead – Single Review

elvis-aint-dead

Hot on the heels of She’s So Lovely, Scouting For Girls deliver yet another up-tempo indie anthem.

Let’s forget that those thick Northern accents drive me psychotic at the moment and concentrate on the song. It’s virtually identical to the last one. Except with a different chorus.

No matter what the subject matter, Scouting For Girls seem to play to an upbeat, cookie-cutter style that has nothing to do with the lyrics. Their unshakable belief in big dumb repetitive choruses is obvious in both Elvis Ain’t Dead and She’s So Lovely.

The BBC’s Sound Of 2008 List

The BBC have released their poll of around 150 UK music industry insiders showing the most hotly anticipated new artists of 2008. Each respondent (no, we weren’t included – maybe next year!) was asked to name their favourite new act for the new year.

The top act has been named as Chasing Pavements singer, Adele, followed by female singer Duffy and a group called The Ting Tings. Here’s the complete list of Sound Of 2008 artists along with links to their websites:

Daughtry – Home – Single Review

Daughtry - Home

If my sources are correct, Home is going to be the first UK single for Chris Daughtry and his mighty band of rockers.

The baldy one apparently wrote the song just before his stint in American Idol and it’s an awesome rock power ballad complete with heartfelt chorus and string section.
