Snow Patrol – Crack The Shutters – Single Review

Snow Patrol are swiftly following up on the success of Take Back The City with a new single, Crack The Shutters.

This will be the second single from their amazing new album, A Hundred Million Suns. I’ve been gradually becoming more fond of Snow Patrol recently, and Crack The Shutters kind of cements my admiration for the band. The song, as usual for this band, is a rich blanket of sound, unmistakeably Snow Patrol.

While Samford Crimson rates the album quite highly, they criticise Crack The Shutters for bad lyrical choices…

Lyrically Snow Patrol has come a long way. Yet with the cheesiness of several of the songs there seems to still be room for improvement.

The lyrical content of the songs doesn’t ruin any of the tracks, but tracks like "Crack the Shutters," which is beautiful from a musical standpoint, could have been fantastic had it not been for the lyrical choices.

All the same, the single has that pulsating sound similar to many of Snow Patrol’s biggest hit singles – which the fans obviously love, because they buy it. For me, I’d like to see a few harder rocking tunes from the band, because they’re definitely capable of rocking out.

At the time of writing this, the single is due for release on 15 December 2008. Kudos to IndieBlogHeaven for blogging about this first.

  1. Macman says:

What is it with music critics? The lyrics of Crack the Shutter are brilliant. Touching, difficult, original. And they fit sweetly with the music.

The problem is that most music critics are jaded, embittered musicians manqués – so their reviews are fueled by the bile of envy.
