Rihanna – Disturbia – Single Review

Rihanna continues to display her penchant for re-invention with Disturbia. It’s a much darker tune and video than we’re used to from her, the same type of departure Maneater was for Nelly Furtado.
In a video that looks part zombie movie, part S&M dungeon, we see Rihanna straddling a shop mannequin. Good girl gone bad indeed.
If I’d written this review a couple of weeks ago, the end result would be that I hated it. But having been bombarded with Disturbia lately, I’ve grown to love it.
The clarity of Rihanna’s vocals is excellent as usual (look at me, like I was talking about a fine wine). You’ve got this futuristic thumping backing track and that unmistakeable voice cuts through it all. And I love that little “We’re in the city of wonder” refrain.
One thing’s for sure, you never know what this girl’s going to come out with next. When you consider last year it was straight R&B with Jay-Z intros, Disturbia proves that Rihanna will always keep us guessing.
