Nickelback - Rockstar

Chad Kroeger and his Nickelback chums are experiencing a bit of a backlash at the moment. Apparently they’ve been rumbled as being both boring and generic.
Funnily enough, I was listening to their Silver Side Up album during the week and I couldn’t help thinking that they weren’t as clever as we all imagined when How You Remind Me came out.
Despite the backlash though, their latest single Rockstar is sitting at #20 in the Billboard Hot 100. Seems like the rest of the population don’t mind their generic brand of hard rockin’.
They should though. Rockstar is quite a turgid country-rock tune of the kind that should have been left to Jon Bon Jovi’s early 90’s cowboy obsession period. I can see they’re aiming for a stadium anthem, but it seems Kroeger spent more time writing the most cliched lyrics of his career at the expense of a decent chorus.
At the time of writing, there isn’t an official video for the song, at least not on the usual outlets ;) You can catch Rockstar below in this fan-made video, but apparently an all-celebrity version featuring peeps as diverse as Nelly Furtado, Kid Rock and Gene Simmons among others will be released shortly.

[...] Nickelback - Rockstar: Chad Kroeger, you are officially my dartboard poster child. You have brought disgrace to the name of rock. Shave your head in penance. [...]

I couldn’t believe it when I discovered Rockstar WASN’T a re-release of an earlier Nickelback song. That’s how uninspired it is.
