New Kids On The Block ft Ne-Yo – Single – Single Review

nkotb-single

I’ve just heard the New Kids On The Block collaboration with Ne-Yo. Wow. Not bad at all.

You know, compared to our own revival of Take That, I always thought the New Kids reunion would be a bit of a damp affair. And until this single, which is called – annoyingly – Single, I had no reason to believe NKOTB stood a chance in the pop charts.

But thanks to a smart pairing with Ne-Yo and a very chart-worthy R&B-style single, you’d be hard pressed to remember Donnie Wahlberg ever wore ripped jeans…

I’m a bit bewildered, because the single was on the Urban Chart on some music channel today, but Wikipedia says it was released in August – huh? Is it current or not?

Regardless, this is worth a listen. Ne-Yo is growing on me, despite a shaky start, and NKOTB are looking good on this. Although the video is funny, because Jon Knight and Danny Wood are virtually cut out of the whole thing. Play ‘spot the less good-looking NKOTB member’ just for fun.

So, who’s beating who in the boyband reunion charts – Take That or New Kids?

It was released as a single in August here in the States. Not sure when it was released in the UK. Unfortunately, just because it was an NKOTB song, radio programmers wouldn’t even put it on their playlist….most of them at least. So it didn’t even get close to the success Summertime had here.

  2. That’s actually a shame, because I didn’t like Summertime. This single is far far better, and as I said above, more chartworthy. I can’t believe it tanked like that.

The song, Single, was actually released the same day the CD, The Block, was released on September 2nd. Unfortunately, it has not received the radio play it deserves.

And as for your comment about the “the less good-looking NKOTB member”, it’s definitely unwarranted. Jon and Danny have grown into their own, and Danny is incredibly hot!

  4. Hi Deborah

Thanks for your comment – I thought I should clarify my comment about Danny and Jon: My point is that Donnie, Jordan and Joey were always pushed to the front in the band in terms of looks. The other two I almost thought were absent because they get little or no screen time (although Danny does in the end).

I’m not in a position to comment on Danny’s looks, but I do agree that like the guys in Take That, they’ve matured well.

If the UK dj’s would just get their fingers out and stop being so god darn stubborn and just play the song on the radio. This song is so amazing, it shouldn’t be going to waste like that.
