Mika - Grace Kelly - Single Review

I just noticed that Mika is still in the charts with his début single, Grace Kelly. Considering Love Today is also in the charts this week at #32, that’s quite impressive for such a new artist.

Grace Kelly is the song that really launched Mika into the public eye. He’s now rocketed to stardom in the UK and is enjoying the kind of tabloid scrutiny that’ll ensure his next few singles are hits and the album Life in Cartoon Motion will be in the charts for the forseeable future.

I think Grace Kelly embodies Mika perfectly - dramatic, theatrical, quirky, upbeat and catchy. Even if it weren’t, the song would be worth listening to just for “so I tried a little Freddy…mmmmmm!”

If you can listen to this song without singing along, check your pulse!

I know this song has drawn a number of comparisons with Freddy Mercury and Queen, and I don’t think it’s completely due to Mika. Listen out for the distorted guitar that punctuates the later part of the song. Tell me that doesn’t sound a bit like Brian May!

Thumbs definitely up for this one!
