Mika - Big Girls (You Are Beautiful)

OK, call me cynical, but is Mika pushing the Freddie Mercury thing too far? He name-checked Mercury in Grace Kelly, he’s a flamboyany, sexually ambiguous character, and now here’s a song that has definite parallels with one of Queen’s best-known tracks.
Queen’s tribute to big girls was Fat Bottomed Girls. Mika’s coming along with Big Girls (You Are Beautiful). Pretty much the same subject matter really. I’m not sure there’s much comparison though. Queen created an enduring rock anthem, while Mika has managed to pull off a cheesy disco number. I suppose there’s the irony of two extremely camp singers singing about plump women?
Anyway, judging the song on its own strengths, Big Girls maintains Mika’s run of offbeat hit singles. In a chart dominated by indie acts of varying quality, Mika will always be a breath of fresh air. I’m just waiting for him to have the balls to release Lollipop!

Call me weird but I’d assumed that Lollipop was going to the most obvious single release after Grace Kelly. My very aged Mum’s really into Mika at the moment, it’s quite funny really as I think she’s camp-blind (I’m sure such a condition exists).I didn’t think that Mika came across at Glastonbury though I do like his quirkiness.

No, I don’t think that’s weird at all - when I first heard the album, I thought exactly the same. I suppose Lollipop might be a bit suggestive for general release, but it’s one of the most addictive songs on the album…

i so love mika hes gorgeouse if u dont agree well there u go u dont but mika is lovely im big ma self and im glad he finally brought a song to suit everyone not just skiny people . i so love u mika were ever you are i love you xxxxx

Mika is a clown, and his art is artless. He is like a mink in pink spandex being electrocuted in bursts. The testes, then brain, were the first to go.
