After the initial buzz surrounding Maroon 5 died down a couple of years ago, you would have been forgiven for thinking you’d never hear from them again. They seemed like a bit of a one-hit-wonder, didn’t they?

But nope, they’re back again with new single, Makes Me Wonder and sounding as funky and fresh as ever. Popjustice said it best:

[They sound] sounding not dissimilar to what might be hoped for from Prince or Jamiroquai had both not gone off the boil several million years ago

You can’t say fairer than that, although Adam Levine’s falsetto is disturbingly good, if not a little bit annoying by the end of the track.

Regardless, Maroon 5 have managed to bring back the magic with a cracking, radio-friendly sing-along tune. While the lyrics are pretty take-it-or-leave it, the groove is excellent and we’d kill for the guitar sound. It’ll be interesting to see what they follow it up with!
