Lenny Kravitz – I’ll Be Waiting – Single Review

I stopped listening to Lenny Kravitz around the time of his Circus album. Not that there was anything wrong with Circus – certainly a few classic Kravitz tracks on there. His problem then was that he was stuck in a retro-rock timewarp.
How to innovate when the public expects a certain sound from you? It’s difficult. It took the public long enough to get used to him without dreadlocks!
Now it seems that Lenny’s sound is welcome back again. I’ll Be Waiting has all his signature moves – solemn balladry and self-harmonising vocals. It really harks back to his Let Love Rule days, but the piano gives the tune a touch of sophistication that wasn’t present in those days.
Back then, any keyboard work was done on a Hammond organ.
Still, I’m getting a good vibe from this single that’ll have me reaching for the old Lenny albums that I keep around. Until I get a hold of the new album, that is.
