Lemar – If She Knew – Single Review

lemar-if-she-knew

Of all the reality TV alumni, Lemar Obika deserves a break. He’s obviously well regarded, even in serious musician circles. Not to say that his singles don’t sell, they do. But you’d think that the industry would be making a bigger deal about him, that’s all.

If She Knew has some really slick production values. It’s a very smooth R&B number, and you know if Ne-Yo or one of those stateside crooners released this, it would be an international hit.

In fact, Lemar has a better voice that his stateside peers. There’s a lovely soulful richness to his singing that is a joy to listen to. I think what the video is missing is any interaction with the woman of the title. Where’s the hot babe Lemar is chasing?

Fraser McAlpine has a funny take on If She Knew – wondering that if Lemar wrote 70 songs for his new album, how this was chosen as the best:

Lemar has claimed that he wrote upwards of 70 songs for his new album. An album which contains just ten songs. Seventy! He says that this ridiculous overwork was a result of being alone in America with a bunch of producers to work with, and the free time to really focus. And somehow having seven times as many songs as you could possibly need wasn’t seen as a massive waste of time and resources, nor are all 70-odd songs going to be released.

Gerard! – I think you are right – Lemar deserves a massive break!

    Fraser McAlpine is a fool.
    What an idiot!lol! :-)

I think Lemar deserves more recognition than he gets. He is by far the best male vocalist in this country. This album (from the little ive heard so far) is already more daring and more conscious than any male solo album ive heard this year.

    Credit where credit is due.
    I’ll be buying!
    ;-)

Totally agree – don’t understand why he’s not more well recieved, out of all the reality ‘pop stars’ Lemar is by far the most credible. Still I think it’s better to have longevity in your career than just a few top ten hits to your name..let’s hope he get a break soon.
Also am loving this song – it’s brilliant!!
