Kylie’s Wow Video Censored

Kylie Minogue’s latest video, Wow, has been censored by Ofcom.

What, I hear you ask, was it all the bare flesh and gyrating? No, folks. Why would a sexy video be at all shocking these days? The reason for the ban on the video is the fear that all the strobe effects would have epileptics up and down the country shaking like billy-o.

It’s a bit of bad news for ol’ Kylie, since Wow is released on 18 February. The video will have to be re-shot, so presumably they’ll miss out on crucial pre-release publicity for the single. Oops.

As of right now, YouTube have removed the video, but the nice folks at DailyMotion have yet to catch up, so enjoy the original while you can. And try not to shake too much… [continued after the video clip]

There’s a nice write-up over on Idolator. There’s even a snarky remark about the old-fashioned release of the song - by premiering on a TV channel. When Kylie released Two Hearts, I made a similar comment about the old-school approach to releasing the single back then.

EMI are being surprisingly anal about how they market Kylie. They’ve stuck to a policy of television exposure - the exclusive premiers of the videos and the Kylie Show that aired a little while back. At the same time, they appear to have cut off the Internet as a marketing channel. It all seems so out of touch to me. What do you think?
