Katy Perry’s new single – Thinking Of You – Review

Katy Perry’s domination of the pop charts is likely to continue with new single, Thinking Of You.
But for the third single from her One Of The Boys album, Katy’s slowing things down. That’s right – no craziness in this video – we’re going to get our first glimpse of serious Katy. The video I’ve chosen (there are two versions) is the one which isn’t going to be shown on TV!
My verdict on the song? Lukewarm, I suppose. For someone who’s released two of the catchiest songs of the last 12 months, it’s glaringly obvious that Thinking Of You doesn’t have any discernable hook.
As a vehicle for Perry, it proves that her voice is fantastic, and once again draws comparisons with Pink. And it’s vaguely reminiscent of Avril Lavigne ballads like I’m With You. Perhaps it’ll be a grower and surprise me, but I’m inclined to think this may be a slight mis-step for Perry.
Unfortunately, there are better ballads in the charts right now, notably Issues by The Saturdays and I Hate This Part by the Pussycat Dolls. Imagine being beaten at ballads by the Pussycat Dolls?
I don’t doubt it’ll be a big hit, but I think Katy works best when she’s being funny and manic.

It is definitely a grower. I first heard this song when I bought the album back last summer, and passed it on as merely filler. But after listening to the CD on repeat (I mean come on its Katy) ‘Thinking of You’ is now one of my favorite songs. It’s really addicting and you’ll find yourself frozen whenever it plays.
