Kate Nash - Pumpkin Soup - Single Review
With the release of Pumpkin Soup and previously Mouthwash, it’s obvious that Kate Nash’s inspiration for new songs comes from walking around the house and pointing at everyday objects. I’m eagerly awaiting the release of Tampon. It’s bound to happen.
Anyway, Pumpkin Soup is alarmingly upbeat. I was sort of expecting something droll and lumbering from Nash, but it’s full of rowdy brass and Cockney chorus shouting.
The Mixtape Meastro gives us a nice rundown of what the single’s about: “Unwilling to see her heart crushed again, Kate wants to be the user this time around, doing her best to keep her distance within her current “relationship” by making it all about sex.” Stereogum are less enthusiastic.
In keeping with the song, the video is virtually a cartoon of Kate leading on her man in a fantasy world surrounded by voyeur humanoid cats. And unless I missed it, no reference to pumpkin soup…
Pumpkin Soup is released on 17th December and is from Kate Nash’s album Made Of Bricks. Which is what her house is made of.
