Kate Nash - Mouthwash

Hi! Thanks for visiting Unreality Music! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to our RSS feed for regular updates.

As the video for Kate Nash’s new video begins, we see her single-handedly attempting to bring back the lost art of air piano. It never caught on first time round, but who knows?

Mouthwash - Kate’s second single from her Made Of Bricks album - is yer basic ode to normality, innit? Who better to sing such a song than a gal who could have just walked off the Eastenders set?

Nash knows where her appeal lies - she’s not trying to be the ‘next Whitney’ (thank the gods). So instead she plays to her strengths, being the typical girl next door with her skin imperfections and her neuroses.

The great thing about Mouthwash is the sense of humor that shines through in the composition. The verses are delivered in that deadpan cockney drawl, while the chorus - with arguably the most ‘normal’ lyrics in the song - sees the entire band kicking in to the lines:

And I use mouthwash
Sometimes I floss
I’ve got a family
And I drink cups of tea

I think Kate’s starting to grow on me with her sharp wit and unique delivery. It’s this that’ll eventually see the comparisons with Lily Allen eventually fall by the wayside. Thumbs up.

I’m the only one who doesnt get the amount of praise that gets heaped on Kate Nash?

Her voice is the most annoying sound ever, the songs are dreadful and her lyrics are woe-some. The worse thing is the whole “product” is that it’s so contrived.

the sooner she is exposed as the fraud she really is the better.

the worst case of emporers new clothes since the Strokes
