The Kaiser Chiefs obviously realise that their attraction lies in their memorable choruses. That’s why there’s no messing about on Everything Is Average.. where they go straight into the chorus. Who needs verses?

For a band like the Kaisers to release a song titled Everything Is Average is just asking for criticism. We’re talking indie rock by numbers here, and the Kaisers are perhaps the biggest offenders.

Now, I’m not going to slate this song. Nope, I actually quite like it. What’s wrong with a bloody good sing-along chorus? Surely you can’t deny that Ricky and Co are masters of the sticky chorus?

You know what I like? Fast forward to the verses - that little call and response between the vocal line and the guitar. Nice.

You know what I don’t like? The social commentary. Not that I don’t care about the blandness of everything these days, but I don’t care for it much in a music video. Matter of fact, I don’t care much for Kaiser Chiefs videos in general.

Still, not a bad track from the Kaisers, but perhaps not on a par with some of their earlier material.
