Ida Maria – Oh My God – Single Review

Back in the summer of 2008, Ida Maria told us she preferred to see us naked. After storming the charts with that tune, she’s re-releasing her debut single, Oh My God, another infectious jittery single.
Idolator remind us that they discovered this tune back in March last year, and naturally loved it:
"Oh My God," which is a solo track in the clip but appears in duet form on her MySpace-posted demo, soars because it’s simultaneously nervy and nervous, and the jittery video is almost as fist-clenching as the jumpy guitars. More like this, please!
Similarly, This Is Fake DIY are frothing at the mouth about the single – which was originally a duet as hinted in the previous review:
A game of vocal-tag, her man-backing trying to keep up with the pace, ‘Oh My God’ is probably her out and out highlight. Coming together for a bawling blend of scaling guitars and undulating vocal chords at points, drifting into anti-key change softness at others, it rollicks, rolls and generally sounds as fine as a purely pop mess can.
Frankly, Oh My God plays to much the same formula as … Better When You’re Naked did. But that’s not a bad thing at all. I love those gravelly vocals, and frantic crescendos Ida builds up to during each verse and which bubble over in the choruses.
Oh My God is re-released on 26 January 2009.
