Groove Armada ft Stush – Get Down – Single Review

Hmmm. You know when you’ve got a cracker idea for a music video, but you haven’t got a song to play behind it? That’s what Groove Armada’s Get Down is – a backing track to a funky video.

I mean, if you turn the sound off on your TV, the video for Get Down is actually pretty entertaining. You’ve got a bunch of bunny rabbits dancing in the video, but they pop off to the lav for a bit of nookie and then…suddenly there’s more rabbits. So the rabbits keep copulating and multiplying and before you know it…well, you get the idea.

The problem is, you’ve got a passable song. Not a great tune. Groove Armada are capable of better than this. And that vocal (presumably by Stush?) – I’m not even sure what language she’s singing in.

Seriously.

Verdict? Crap. A music video that’s better without the music.

It’s good to see that casual racism/ignorance of language variation is alive in the 21st century.

I am not agreeing at all, the music is pretty cool. TT” And the video rocks.

  3. @William: I stand by my comment, it has nothing to do with casual racism. It’s simply impossible to understand what’s being sung about in this song!

I love the way that racism is dragged out whenever somebody indicates they don’t like something. It’s a bit of an easy insult to make.

I totally agree with you. Even though I disliked the track at first, I find the video so much fun to watch, I am now immune to the fact that the music is annoying. As for the language comment, you are not being racist. I too had no idea if the vocals were in English. Some of it clearly is, but it takes some decoding. Good review, thanks.

I figured it’s a veiled take on Jamaica’s dance hall culture.

  6. Matt says:

The video is mildly amusing but I think the song is tremendous whether I can understand all of the lyrics.

  7. Gordon says:

Too right, the song rocks. As does the video. This is the problem with most music reviewers – they push on their opinions without saying anything substantial or constructive.

  8. Rocky says:

ha!ha! I can understand everything she is saying! – It’s called English in a Jamaican dialect but anyways it did sound racist when I read it (and I’m not Jamaican!)

If you ask me, this song is their best ever!

Who says you have to understand what she’s singing? I mean can’t you just enjoy the song without trying to find faults with it?

i m not sure why people who dont have done anything that even comes close as what groove armada have done have the idea to dismiss something as crap everyone that loves to dance and move will tell you its a killer track to dance too
if you just cant hear it just say its not your thing or something but dont call it crap according to whom compaired to what ?
