Goldfrapp – A&E – Single Review

goldfrapp-a&e

Sometimes an act comes along with a song and it forces you to face the fact that they might actually be pretty good after all. A&E has exactly that effect for me when it comes to Goldfrapp.

Up until this point I’d written the band off as quirky oddities that didn’t warrant much attention. However, A&E is such a rich and beautiful song that it begs you to re-evaluate them.

The video is as unashamedly strange as anything Goldfrapp have done before, with Alison lying face down in a forest clearing, then dancing with a variety of people dressed up as trees.

Completely disregarding whatever art-school statement is being made, the music is an absolute treasure, relying heavily on acoustic tones which work wonderfully with Alison’s voice. It’ll be a shame, but since this doesn’t fall under the category of vapid pop music or same-sounding indie vomit, I doubt it’ll receive the airplay it deserves.

And it does deserve some damned good airplay. Check out Arjan’s post for more thoughts.
