Fergie – Big Girls Don’t Cry

Shock news: Fergie covers herself up in a pop video! That’s right, lil’ Stacey took the difficult decision to put navel and cleavage under an unattractive red t-shirt and braces affair.

That’s not the only departure for Fergie with this song. Big Girls Don’t Cry is stylistically completely different to anything she’s ever done, either with the Black Eyed Peas or solo (that I’ve heard). The tune is basically a stripped-down mid-tempo love song.

And therein lies the problem, fellow pop analysts. That’s not what we expect from Fergie. The Fergie I know is raunchy, suggestive and never wears this many clothes. Her songs are about parties and sex and her bling bling lifestyle. Serious balladry should be left to the professionals, shouldn’t it?

Although she makes a decent stab at it, Big Girls Don’t Cry is poor material by anybody’s standards. There’s simply no hook, nothing to sing along to, no chorus to remember. Compare this to her BEP songs, or even her last couple of solo singles. Let’s put it this way, if she’s hoping Big Girls is her route to more serious music, Stacey is sorely mistaken. Imagine an unknown releasing this single – people wouldn’t buy it.

I don’t think the public would forgive Fergie if she released any more dross like this. Time this solo gig was put to bed and she got back to work with her BEP buddies. I’m waiting with baited breath for that album!

    I think this is one of Fergies best work…change is good, I’m proud of her. I love the song and it does have a hook.

    Well this guy was wrong…. Big Girls Don’t Cry has been a big success. Topping the charts for a while. AND Ferg herself, her album is good. A slap in te face for you then!

    Fergie you are one of the best singers I ever heard I bought your CD as soon as it came out and keep making good Cds because you can sing like crazy!!!!!!!!!! if I ever could meet you I would want you to do a live performance here and sing my favorite song (big girls dont cry)! out of the hole CD that was one of the best song! the rythem to it was awesome as soon as I heard it I was like whow!

    please keep making good Cds which I know that you probaly never read this but if you do say something in your next CD about this so I know that you read this!!
