Duffy – Rain On Your Parade – Single Review

Believe it or not folks, but Duffy has managed to pump out five singles in the last 12 months. And despite a shaky start with Mercy, Duffy has become…less annoying…in the weeks and months that followed.
And so single number 5, Rain On Your Parade, will be released on 17th November. Don’t expect it to be radically different to Mercy – it still has that 60’s soul vibe to it.
In fact, the video’s pretty similar: Duffy struts around, showing off not-too-shabby legs while some gentlemen dance around her.
If I have one complaint, it’s about styling. She looks like a vampire, all pale and something about her mouth when she sings makes it look like she’s about to reveal some fangs.
But I digress…Rain On Your Parade is quality stuff, and judging by the video below, I’m not the only person who thought it had a ‘Bond theme’ type of sound. Still, I wouldn’t mind something contemporary thrown in for good measure, something like Winehouse’s “What kind of fuckery…” line. Something to show us that Duffy actually knows what decade she’s in.
That’s the problem, methinks. All these tunes are wonderful, and yes you could call them timeless in a way. But she could be covering obscure Dusty Springfield songs, and we’d never know. Would we?
