Dr Pepper Calls Axl Rose’s Bluff
I love this! After years (and years) of stalling on the release of Chinese Democracy, Dr Pepper has taunted Axl Rose by offering everyone in America a free drink if he releases the album in 2008.
What a slap in the teeth when a major soft drinks company takes a ‘pop’ at your expense!
Rose has stalled on releasing Chinese Democracy numerous times and Guns N’ Roses fans have almost given up hope of ever seeing the album released. I personally believe it doesn’t actually exist and is a marketing gimmick to keep a lingering interest in GNR in order to shift their wonderful back catalog. Let’s face it, Rose could not release an album today that would sound anything like the GNR we all fell in love with back in ‘88.
Which is a roundabout way of saying Axl Rose is a laughing stock and Dr Pepper just scored some major points without coming straight out and calling him a loser.
I, however, am not bound by such concerns – I still have hard feelings for the little egomaniac who destroyed the best band in the world, then destroyed their legacy by trying to continue to use the name. Then taking 17 years to release an album that will bear no resemblance to the timeless – YES, TIMELESS – music he created all those years ago.
Axl, corporate America is laughing at you and taking cheap shots at your expense. Either release the damned album or come out and admit that you’ve got nothing.

Tired of a world in which Americans idolise wannabe singers and musicals about high schoolers pass as rock ‘n roll music, Dr Pepper is encouraging (ok, begging) Axl Rose to finally release his 17-years-in-the-making belabored masterpiece, Chinese Democracy, in 2008.
In an unprecedented show of solidarity with Axl, everyone in America, except estranged GNR guitarists Slash and Buckethead, will receive a free can of Dr Pepper if the album ships some time – anytime! – in 2008.
Dr Pepper supports Axl, and fully understands that sometimes you have to make it through the jungle before you get it right.”

I am gonna go out right now and buy a god damned Dr. Pepper. That’s really great. “Axl” always was a whiny little prick if you ask me, and he just got owned by a soft drink company. Not to mention getting slapped by Tommy Hilfiger(sp?). It’s going to be fun watching his continuing descent.
Band was a little screechy and self-important to my taste.
GNR sucked, Axl sucked.. Glad they’re gone.

The best thing GNR had going for them was Slash.Axl couldn’t sing had that one lame ass dance he did with every song.His new band sucks,he sucks,and all of his new music sucks.Axl Rose just plain SUCKS !

I didn’t know that Axl Rose was still in the music business. Thought he had faded into the background and happily spending the money made from the back catalog.
I always wondered if Axel was actually trying to be political by calling the album “Chinese Democracy” in that democracy will never come to China and the next GNR album won’t come out either. Kind an Eagles “when hell freezes over” statement.

just a newbie but really liked axl rose…have not kept at all up to date on what he is doing now..some of his lyrics are very moving and at one time or another way back when touched me to the core
Never been that “into” GnR – they were okay, had a few decent songs. Have heard many of the leaks on the web allegedly from Chinese Democracy and, well … sure don’t see these doing much of anything except causing the diehard fans to buy/download.
IMO, Shackler’s Revenge is nearly unlistenable. I’ve never called a song BLOATED before in my life, but that was the first word that came to mind when I heard it.
After three listens the only thing I remember about the song is the elephant in it. ROFL – An ELEPHANT ?!?!?
So far, two generations of listeners (80’s and today) all went either “meh” or “yuck” after hearing the songs.
Axl’s voice, while unique, has always been weak and this hasn’t changed. He is usually overpowered by the music and often can’t be understood.
