It’s all change at the top of the singles chart this week as Sean Kingston gets dethroned by the return of the Sugababes, and Shayne Ward makes a surprise appearance at the number two spot.
- Sugababes - About You Now: Surprise entry from the ‘babes
- Shayne Ward - No U Hang Up: Who’d have thought Shan-ye Ward would have seen this side of the top 10 ever again?
- 50 Cent - Ayo Technology: Fitty and the boys are holding on to chart supremacy without an awful lot of effort. Somebody out there loves ya Fitty.
- Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls: Sean’s been knocked off the top spot and ended up halfway down the top 10. We reckon he’ll stick around here for a couple of weeks yet.
- Ida Corr v Fedde Le Grand - Let Me Think About It:
- Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah: Time for a new single from the T’s? A bit like Scouting For Girls below, these new bands need to capitalize on their success by releasing some new material on the strength of these initial hits.
- Kanye West - Stronger: On the slow descent from the chart….
- James Blunt - 1973: Still haven’t heard this too much on the radio. Has anyone even seen a video for it yet?
- Scouting For Girls - She’s So Lovely: Dropping a couple of places, Scouting For Girls haven’t wasted much time in releasing their album. Seems a bit premature, try releasing a few singles first boys.
- Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive: Uh-oh, looks like Rihanna could be heading out of the top 10 after this week. Looks like Shut Up And Drive doesn’t have the same staying power as Umbrella.
Notably missing, the Foo Fighters only got a peek into the chart last week and disappeared again very suddenly. Now, with a number of other acts on the slippery slope, next week’s chart could be a very different scene altogether…

Not much change in the UK top 10 this week. Standout tracks are Stronger by Kanye, The Pretender by Foo fighters and Shut Up And Drive by Rihanna. Delivery by Babyshambles seems to be getting a fair bit of attention, and rightly so. It’s a vindication of all the hype that we’ve heard about Pete Doherty this last few years.

Welcome to the UK top 10 for 16th September. A pretty good chart this week with a good mix of pop, hip-hop and other stuff. Sean Kingston is holding up the top spot with Beautiful Girls, and the Plain White T’s are looking to be a fixture for a few more weeks.
Here’s the line-up…
- Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls: Kingston’s likeable reggae rehash of Stand By Me is still riding high in the charts. Tell me you haven’t been singing it in your shower…
- Plain White T’s - Hey There Delilah: Still loving the gentle acoustic ode to unrequited love.
- Kanye West - Stronger: Bigger, better, faster, stronger. Yup, Kanye is ticking all the right boxes with this tune while not resting on the formula that made Late Registration such a success.
- James Blunt - 1973: When homicidal feelings start rising, you know Blunt’s released another single. Goddammit. Worse still, I sorta like this one.
- 50 Cent - Ayo Technology: Even the collaboration with the Timber Brothers can’t save this from being a snoozefest. 50 is such a bloody robot.
- Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive: The cutest girl in pop right now, but can she push Shut Up And Drive to the #1 spot?
- Girls Aloud - Sexy No No No: Five PVC-clad popstrels (I stole that word from Smash Hits) and a blazing track that we won’t be tiring of anytime soon.
- Robyn ft Kleerup - With Every Heartbeat: Robyn and her despairing pop video face are getting a little tedious. And. It. Hurts. With. Every. Repeat.
- Timbaland ft Keri Hilson - The Way I Are: Timbaland doesn’t leave the charts easily, and this track’s hanging in there alongside his collaboration with 50 Cent, giving him two Top 10 tracks this week.
- Scouting For Girls - She’s So Lovely: Great pop track - rowdy, uplifting and memorable. Don’t have a clue who these folks are, but damn good effort…

Well, fellow music fans, it’s that time of year: the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. The date is remembered every August, lately with a deluge of re-releases of his greatest hits.
This year’s no exception - aside from other Elvis classics, Suspicious Minds has been re-released and is back in the UK pop charts. I’m not going to get into a big debate about the tune, it’s classic Elvis. Turn your collars up and sing along…

This week, Kanye West knocked Robyn off the top of the charts with Stronger. Not much change in the top 10 though, most of the action is in the lower half of the charts, some pretty good music on the horizon.
Anyway, here’s the top 10 for this week:

I’ve got a lot to thank Bon Jovi for. Back in the day (that’s 1988, kiddies), they were my earliest introduction to the wonderful world of Hair Metal. It’s been quite a ride, and the ‘Jovi sound has mellowed in the intervening years.
So, if you’re a fan of classic Bon Jovi, let’s take a look down memory lane at 10 of their best-known songs:

In case you didn’t know, we galavanted off to Spain a couple of weeks ago, leaving the Pop Chart to rot. Well, we’re back now and it doesn’t look like much has changed. Apart from Rhianna dominating the #1 spot for the last fortnight, of course. But aside from that, a lot of the bands that were in the top 10 when we left are still there!
Here we go!

There’s been some shifting around in the pop charts this week, as the formidable duo - Beyonce, Beyonce and Shakira, Shakira - finally get knocked off the #1 spot by McFly, McFly (sorry).
Travis, who peeked their heads into the Top 10 last week are gone again, while the Manics’ comeback single is already on the way back out. I’m most pleased to see Linkin Park enter the top 10 with What I’ve Done a powerfully miserable song that Unreality Music has yet to cover. Don’t worry, we’ll soon fix that!
What’s that? The chart? OK, here it is…..
- McFly - Baby’s Coming Back: Never underestimate the buying power of teenage girls…..
- Beyonce/Shakira - Beautiful Liar: Ah, this could be the start of their descent from the top 10. I’m sure both have something equally hot waiting for us, right?
- Akon - Don’t Matter: There seems to be no escape from the helium-voiced R&B dude. Don’t matter though.
- Gym Class Heroes - Cupid’s Chokehold: Still riding high with their remake of Supertramp’s Breakfast In America. Still loving the tune.
- Scootch - Flying The Flag: Whether this was the result of some kind of misplaced patriotism or a cruel practical joke, I hope this band disappear into whatever hole they’ve been hiding in for the last few years. Seriously, can the Queen have them beheaded for treason or something? Go fly someone else’s flag! Hey, they got what they deserved.
- Linkin Park - What I’ve Done: Brilliant track! Slap on too much mascara, crank the volume up on this sucker and grind on your imaginary guitar for the next 4 minutes. Sweet.
- Timbaland - Give It To Me: Seems like the slowest chart descent ever….
- Manic Street Preachers - Your Love Alone: Not getting the radio play it deserves. On reflection, it may sound slightly dated, begging the question “Have the Manics had their day?”
- Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend: Listened to her album the other day. You can really spot the singles, lots of filler in there.
- Amerie - Take Control: Uh. Take control of me. Whatever you say, Amerie. Welcome to the top 10.
Well peeps, that’s your lot for tonight. Let me know your predictions for next week’s top 10 and any upcoming singles you’re liking at the moment.

Well, whaddaya think about them pop charts? We’ve got a few new entries into the Top 10 this week (yes, the week’s almost over). Let’s take a look…
- Beyonce Knowles/Shakira - Beautiful Liar: Proof that the combined hip-shaking power of these uber-babes can hold off a vast array of pop-rock talent! If they used their powers for good, they could gyrate for world peace! How noble…
- Manic Street Preachers - Your Love Alone Is Not Enough: - Old school 90’s rock delivered by one of the best bands of their generation, and an unexpected collaboration with Nina Persson from The Cardigans.
- Gym Class Heroes - Cupid’s Chokehold: Cupid’s Chokehold has risen about 5 places since last week. I suspect the novelty is wearing off - it’s not getting the level of airplay I would have expected.
- Timbaland - Give It To Me: Still can’t get enough of this song. Timbaland definitely has the magic touch when it comes to chart-topping R&B material.
- Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend: Strangely, the buying power of zillions of teen girls hasn’t propelled Girlfriend to the top of the charts, but it’s still hanging in there. Down a couple of places from last week though.
- Ne*Yo: Still refusing to rate this rubbish. Can we stop buying his records now? Please?
- Mika - Love Today: Yay Mika! This guy is the champion of quirky pop music in the UK today. Let’s hope he keeps on shaking things up!
- Mark Ronson - Stop Me: Stop Me is slowly slipping out of the Top 10 right now, but Mark’s riding a wave of publicity for his new album Version.
- Groove Armada - Get Down: Just bloody awful.
- HelloGoodbye - Here (In Your Arms): I could try to be charitable, but I think these guys are going to be one hit wonders in a couple of weeks….
Anyone else notice the sharp fall from grace of the mighty Monkeys and Brianstorm? One week in the top ten and straight back out again (they’re at #15 this week). That’s woeful.
Predictions for next week? I think it’ll be all change this week as a lot of entries are starting to slip. I’d welcome some fresh blood, if only to see the back of bloody Ne*Yo!
