Britney Spears – Womanizer – Single Review

Britney’s new single, Womanizer, is splitting opinions everywhere.
Where some reviewers are captivated by the futuristic electronic fuzz and the heavily processed vocals, others like the stalwart pop commentator Bill Lamb remain unimpressed.
It all sounds like a rather weak attempt to approach the attitude of Katy Perry in a classic Britney futuristic bubblegum pop context. Unfortunately, after a few listens it all becomes quite dull.
Having watched from the sidelines as Britney descended into her well-chronicled mental breakdown, I want to believe reports of her recovery. I certainly want to see her have a triumphant comeback.
Like Bill, Womanizer leaves me cold. If I wanted a blast of semi-burlesque pop music, I’d have referred to Perry or the recently reunited Pussycat Dolls.
Just in case there was too much dissent from the ranks, Brit’s recorded quite a raunchy video to accompany the song. I really think I liked her better when she was playing the coy all-American teen though…
Ultimately, Womanizer is one of those songs that really doesn’t have much interesting to say. I think we’re looking to the next single already to see if Britney can regain her pop crown.

I absolutely agree that this song is weak, weak, weak. So much so that despite my routing for Brit to make a comeback, I had to rag on her yesterday for the suckage that is “Womanizer.” If her return to the fore of pop music, she is going to have to return to her entertaining roots and dig a little bit deeper. Not that I expect her to do anything particularly cerebral, but it used to be that even when you didn’t like Britney Spears music, you could respect it…the latest stuff is not even respectable. Not even for a pop artist.
