Biffy Clyro - Who’s Got A Match? - Single Review

Biffy Clyro - Who's Got A Match

Finally exhausting the supplies of potential singles from their Puzzle album, Biffy Clyro released Who’s Got A Match? on 4 February. And after a string of introspective acoustic ballads, it’s nice to hear the boys knocking up the tempo a little bit and releasing a heavier track.

Who’s Got A Match? revolves around a fairly heavy rhythm with a quirky ascending/descending guitar line. Simon Neil’s vocal demonstrates a heavy Scots accent, slightly stilted, but that sort of awkward delivery stamps the Biffy seal all over this song.

The guys do a great job of building the song up to a raging climax. Love the raw sound of the guitar, particularly toward the end of the song. Where I’ve spent a lot of time lately lamenting originality and passion in rock music, the Biffy seem to have it by the truckload.

My only gripe is that they chose to stick their cover of Rihanna’s Umbrella on the B-side. Surely 2007/8’s equivalent of Indie bands covering Britney’s Hit Me Baby (One More Time)?

But that’s a minor quibble. Especially when the Biffy are starting fires on the A side…
